Sunday Roundup: 9/23/12

23 Sep

A short list of games but games that are amazing nonetheless. I have been busy this week and am currently still out of town on a vacation of sorts, but that didn’t stop me from picking up two new games this week. I need to clarify what “new” means though: One game is new in every sense of the word: it came out this week, I bought it, and it was wrapped in that plastic that is so satisfying to tear open. The other game, while also new in that it came out this week, is actually a collection of older titles and some other swag (if the picture hasn’t given it away yet).

Borderlands 2
Xbox 360
Release Date: September 18th, 2012

Purchased at: GameStop (Michigan City, IN – $60)

Oh my god, Borderlands 2! I cannot think of any other game this year that I was more excited to play. Honestly, I can’t think of any! And from the hours I’ve spent with the game so far it has not disappointed. The game remains largely the same from the previous, which is not a bad thing at all. But the new characters to play as, the new story, the new bad guys, the small tweaks to the formula, the added guns and abilities, it all makes an excellent first game seem obsolete in comparison. I expect to be playing this way for a long time, so get used to hearing about it.

Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set
Xbox 360
Release Date: September 18th, 2012
Purchased at: GameStop (Michigan City, IN – $150)

I very, VERY rarely purchase a box set of games. Mainly for two reasons: the first being I usually already own all the games that are in the set, and the second being I decide that I don’t need to fork over extra money when all I really want are the games. But then Capcom came along and released this absolutely epic Street Fighter 25th Anniversary set. This baby packs a huge punch, or should I say Dragon Punch. Hahaha… anyway. It comes with four games (Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, and Street Fighter X Tekken), all the DLC for those games, an 11-disc soundtrack from the entire series, a bonus Blu-Ray that has a brand new documentary film, both Street Fighter IV movies, and the entire animated series, as well as a highly detailed Ryu statue and a replica Ryu belt, an official tribute art book, and lastly a letter of authenticity, all in a nicely designed collectible box with Akuma’s Heaven kanji. Man, all that shit for $150 is a freaking steal to SF fans. So I bought it. And since I had all these games already on the PS3, I went the Xbox 360 route.

Nice collectors set! The price doesn’t seem that high considering all it contains. Nice finds!

It’s actually quite a great deal for the Collector’s Set. The four games alone would cost about $50-$60 with their current prices (and a lot more with all the included DLC), and the quality of the art book, Ryu statue/belt, and soundtracks/movies make the package wholly worth it.

Man, I am hooked on Borderlands 2. What character are you using? I’m using Zero in my main playthrough, but I have also had fun with the Gunzerker in another. I think this game is even more addictive than the first one.

I’m running through the game with my girlfriend as Zero as well. And my second character is Maya. Both are pretty fun, but I lean more towards Zero as my main because I just love sniping.
