Sunday Roundup: 9/22/13

New Games (9-22-13)For the past seven or so years, I have been saving the points under the caps of Coca-Cola beverages to use with their My Coke Rewards program. Initially I started saving the codes because I saw that there were some Wii games available and thought, “I drink enough pop, I can start saving!” So after several years of saving points I managed to garner enough points to purchase some SkullCandy ear buds, a few gift cards for flowers to give to my girlfriend, plenty of free photographs, and, most recently, a GameStop gift card! I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching to spend my money lately (Perhaps because with my new job I’m making more money than I ever have before). So with a fresh $20 gift card in my hand, I went shopping.

Review: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix CoverThe Kingdom Hearts series has become one of the most well-regarded RPG franchises. Spanning over 10 years and seven unique games, it’s safe to say blending Disney with Final Fantasy has worked out well.

With the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix on the PlayStation 3, gamers can relive the earliest adventures of Sora, Donald, and Goofy all over again in glorious HD! Featuring complete versions of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, as well as nearly three hours of cinematic storytelling taken from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, HD 1.5 Remix is a compilation of games for newcomers to the series as well as a beautiful retelling of stories for series veterans. The Recurring Bosscast: 025: PS3some

The Recurring Bosscast is back and better than ever with our 25th episode!

In honor of Grand Theft Auto V being released, Mat, Jett, and I reminisce about our past experiences with video game launches. I recall getting stuck out in the rain for Mortal Kombat. Jett goes to all the Nintendo platform launches because he’s a fanboy like that, and Mat doesn’t buy in to any of the hype!

Sunday Roundup: 9/15/13

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix CoverKingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix
Release Date: September 10th, 2013
Purchased at: Target (Sunnyvale, CA – $40)

I picked up this one for a new review and have been happy with it so far. The collection offers up full HD versions of the PS2 games Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. Final Mix is an updated version of the original KH previously released only in Japan with extra content like enemies and a redone battle menu. Re: Chain of Memories is the remake of the original Chain of Memories on the Game Boy Advance which is now remarkably different on the PS2 because it’s shifted from 2D to 3D gameplay. Also included is around 3 hours of HD cinema scenes from the DS title 358/2 Days, which I have yet to play. I’ve been playing more of Chain of Memories than Final Mix, but only because I’ve never finished the game. I’m planning on wrapping up the 358/2 Days cinemas as well as the games and subsequent review later this week. Stay tuned to hear my full thoughts!

Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

untitledWhen referencing the greatest beat ‘em ups of all time, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game inevitably shows up on the list. Whether it’s the excellent Arcade Game or Turtles in Time, chances are Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael make the cut.—so it makes sense people get excited when a new TMNT-themed brawler is announced. Based on the Nickelodeon animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is the newest game to feature the heroes—and while die hard Turtle fanatics will love the adherence to the source material, sloppy controls, glitches, and many minor nuisances keep the game from being as memorable an experience as the earlier games. Sunday Roundup: 9/8/13

New Games (9-8-13)I had to work at a different location this past week and it was in a large complex that also happened to contain a rather large GameStop. If you recall last week’s Sunday Roundup you’ll remember that a few sales were happening at the chain, namely a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal and a 3 for $10 sale. Seeing as Monday was a holiday most of those deals were extended through Labor Day, so I took advantage once again! Honestly through, these were extremely good finds that I may have just bought for the hell of it without any sale. And I must say, my Wii collection has been steadily growing the past months and it’s starting to get filled with some quality titles! Go watch my Game Hunter video on the Wii to learn why that’s been happening. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: New StreetPass Games

New StreetPass PlazaThe Nintendo 3DS has a basket full of features: it can display stereoscopic 3D images without the use of glasses, the system is capable of handling software that is visually comparable to the Wii, and it fits in your pocket. Perhaps the most underused (?) but most awesome features the system has is StreetPass. Tagging someone with the system’s detection ability and then playing a game with that person’s Mii character has always been fun, and getting bonus content in select 3DS games is even cooler. But with the addition of four brand new downloadable StreetPass games to play, Nintendo has made carrying your handheld with you even more exciting! Not all the bonus games are incredibly fun, but there’s enough content and enjoyment to be had to easily warrant a purchase. Read the rest of this entry »

The Recurring Bosscast: 024: A Clown and Her Dolly

Episode 24 of the Recurring Bosscast marks the one year anniversary of the show! Man, I really can’t believe it’s already been a solid year of recording with Mat and Jett. It’s been great so far, and I’m totally looking forward to the next!

Anyway, in our latest episode we disect Jett’s brain after he had the privilege of playing both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One at Fan Expo in Toronto. Basically Killer Instinct is better than I thought it was going to be.
