Sunday Roundup: 9/22/13

22 Sep

New Games (9-22-13)For the past seven or so years, I have been saving the points under the caps of Coca-Cola beverages to use with their My Coke Rewards program. Initially I started saving the codes because I saw that there were some Wii games available and thought, “I drink enough pop, I can start saving!” So after several years of saving points I managed to garner enough points to purchase some SkullCandy ear buds, a few gift cards for flowers to give to my girlfriend, plenty of free photographs, and, most recently, a GameStop gift card! I don’t know why, but I’ve been itching to spend my money lately (Perhaps because with my new job I’m making more money than I ever have before). So with a fresh $20 gift card in my hand, I went shopping.

Custom Robo Arena CartridgeCustom Robo Arena
DS
Release Date: March 19th, 2007
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $3)

Unfortunately I think DS games are on the way out of GameStop. Well, at least housing them in the store complete with boxes, manuals, and anything else they originally came with. I found this game with probably 100 others at the checkout counter inside some old CD slip cases. There were some good games included in there, and I decided to give this one a try. I mean, the price wasn’t an issue, and the reviews are good.

Drawn to Life The Next Chapter (Wii) CoverDrawn the Life: The Next Chapter
Wii
Release Date: October 27th, 2009
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $5)

This game has been on my radar for some time now and this week I finally bit. Drawn to Life originally started out on the DS, created by 5th Cell, the same team that created the Scribblenauts series (which I think is great!). Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter is the sequel to the original game, and much like I discovered with Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands two weeks ago, The Next Chapter differs between the DS and Wii version. The DS version is created by 5th Cell and features a different story than the Wii version, while the Wii version isn’t made by 5th Cell and is considered to be the lesser of the two. The more you know!

Mercury Meltdown Revolution CoverMercury Meltdown Revolution
Wii
Release Date: October 16th, 2007
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $1)

Dollar Games!
You can’t really complain when you spend a buck for a full, complete game. Mercury Meltdown Revolution is a physics based puzzle game that has you guiding a blob of mercury through a maze/puzzle board to the goal. I’ve played and reviewed Mercury HG for the PS3 and loved it’s combination of simple gameplay, wonderful music, and addictiveness. This version uses the Wii’s motion sensing controller to guide the glob, and I’m actually looking forward to playing it.

Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands (Wii) CoverPrince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Wii
Release Date: May 18th, 2010
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $5)

Speak of the devil, another version of Forgotten Sands! I really am intrigued by the different platforms’ games being totally different from each other. The Wii version here is still a 3D action game, but features a new storyline, new weapons/powers, and even multiplayer (to an extent). Now I just need to hunt down the DS version (which I know I’ve seen before) and the PSP version (which will likely be a hard copy to find).

Resistance 2 CoverResistance 2
PS3
Release Date: November 4th, 2008
Purchased at: GameStop (Cupertino, CA – $2.50)

The sequel to the PS3’s biggest launch title, Resistance 2 was part of a 50% off sale when I visited this store. At just $2.50 I decided I should own the trilogy of Resistance games. I already own a copy of the first game (still wrapped, actually), and the third game was also on the 50% off sale, but I decided to wait on it because it was still going to be $7. My thinking was it’ll be around for a long time, seeing as the Resistance series is one of the biggest on the PS3. Time will tell if my hypothesis was correct.

Laters,
Jsick

Drawn to life for the Wii, I’ve thought of buying it too a few times, but I haven’t gotten a sweet enough deal yet.
    Good finds! 😀

I’m sure you’ll find a good deal eventually. Any other games you’ve been eying for awhile?

Those are actually all games I would love to have too! I’ve sadly missed out on ALL of the Mari & Luigi games. I really need to track those down.
