After a quarter century of Street Fighter and Mega Man games, Capcom has finally combined its two flagship franchises in a fan-made downloadable PC game, Street Fighter x Mega Man. Borrowing elements from each cherished and respected franchise, SFxMM is perhaps the most unique entry into either series’ storied history. Serving as the official 25th anniversary celebration for both franchises, SFxMM delivers exactly what it sets out to do: pay homage to the last 25 years of Capcom’s biggest franchises and please the fans. Yearly Roundup: 2012
Another year draws to a close and 2013 is right in front of us. What better way to look back on the year that was 2012 than reliving each and every game purchase of the year! You may recall last year I did something very similar at the end of the year, but this time around it’s a bit more special. 2012 was Slick Gaming’s first full calendar year being a live blog (a feat I still can’t grasp entirely). That means a lot of things, like more posts and features than before, but it also means an entire year’s worth of new games chronicled in the Sunday Roundup feature. Let’s start out in January and take a look back at the year in games! Read the rest of this entry »
Review: Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition
When Baldur’s Gate first released on the PC back in 1998, BioWare had created one of the most beloved and recognizable games to bear the Dungeons & Dragons license, as well as one of the most finely crafted RPG experiences to date.
Fast forward nearly 14 years to the day and we are given Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, a reworked version of the game that hammers out a multitude of bugs found in the original release, as well as introduces brand new characters, storylines, and modes to play through. But for all the accolades it received in the late 90s, how well does the once mighty Baldur’s Gate stand up to RPG juggernauts like Dragon Age: Origins in today’s gaming world? Review: Half-Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy
Nothing ruins your day more than an evil overlord kidnapping your nation’s princess and threatening the utter destruction of your land in just a few moments. And what if you don’t have the time to get out there and rescue her, uncover the ultimate weapons needed to slay a massive beast guarding the entrance to the evil bosses lair, and knock out the evil overlord for good? If that’s the case then you’ll be happy to know you can do all of that in less than one minute in Half-Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy on PC. Read the rest of this entry »
Review: Retro City Rampage
What started out as a side project has turned into one of the biggest trips down memory lane for anyone who grew up in the 80s or 90s. Retro City Rampage pays homage to countless movies, TV shows, and video games from decades past, all wrapped up in an 8-bit package. The nostalgic setting and pop culture humor though make Retro City Rampage a game for a specific type of player.
Review: Color Bind
Games today are measured by a lot of criteria: quality of visuals, clarity of sound, ease of control, implementation of multiplayer, and the list goes on. It can be hard to measure a game solely by its gameplay with all these other portions jumping for your attention. Seldom a game comes out that strips all these distractions away and focuses entirely on solid, addictive gameplay. Colour Bind is a new PC indie game available on Steam that keeps the focus on puzzle solving and bold visuals, for better or for worse. Read the rest of this entry »
Sunday Roundup: 9/9/12
I thought I was working quite a lot lately, so when I finally got a day off I decided I owed it to myself to spend a little bit of this money I was earning. With that in mind I went a few towns over where they have a much nicer mall and shopping experience than my own city and found a few good deals. The best thing of all, aside from finding these games in great condition, was that I got them all for less than $20!
Review: Orcs Must Die 2
It was just one year ago that gamers took up the blade staff and orchestrated the mass genocide of orcs in the original Orcs Must Die. Now gamers have an entirely new adventure to play through, with thousands more orcs to slay, new weapons and traps to utilize, and an entirely new, albeit familiar, character to play. Oh yeah, and something called co-op multiplayer. By tweaking a few details of the formula and keeping the core gameplay from the original game, Orcs Must Die 2 takes and already great game and makes it much better.
