What can you get for $10 these days? Two five dollar footlongs at Subway, at least until Thursday. Half of a T-shirt? Maybe some cheap flatware from Wal-Mart? This week I determined that $10 can net you more than some lame cutlery or fast food. It can be six video games! Sure, it’s not six of the newest games, but it’s six video games that can suck up way more time than some silly sandwich.
While the arcade game is a classic in every sense of the word, Frogger on the PS1 is as far from a classic as one can get. If you’re one that can’t stand animal, or in this case reptilian, cruelty, then you should avoid this game at all costs.
This week was planned. I thought to myself, “Jason, you’re gonna go out there, find some cheap-ass games, and you’re going to buy them.” I actually decided this. Usually I refrain from splurging on games like this, convincing myself I don’t need the game, even if it is $3, which many of these games were (if not less). But I was in a buying mood, and, thankfully, many places were in the selling spirit! And wouldn’t you know it, there were even some surprises in this week’s roundup!
I’ve been bitten by the “I feel obligated to spend money” bug! And I have a feeling the symptoms aren’t going to go away until I pick up a few cheap games. This week was just the starter. I’m getting antsy about buying games I’ve been looking at on the GameStop shelves for months/years now: all I’m waiting for is a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” used sale and I’m gonna go nuts. By “go nuts” i mean drop like, $30. I’ll probably buy upwards of 10 games with said $30, so it’ll be a good deal. More on that to come if and when it should occur. Until then…
The first proper Sunday Roundup of the year. That feels good to say.
What’s also good is being able to explore new cities and raid the local game shops for whatever hasn’t been cleared out already. In this case that means two shops with a huge backlog of games (some good, many more not so good) I added to my collection. I’m still working on completing that Dreamcast collection, so that’s making up a hefty portion of this weeks haul. Other than Sega’s finest, I’ve got a handful of haggled-for PS1 titles.
Perhaps you’re newer to games, with “new” meaning you started playing games in the 2000s or later. If you fall into this category you might be wondering where the hell all these so-called “All-Stars” are coming from in the PlayStation 3’s mascot-fueled brawler PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. You’ve got a God, some treasure hunter with a few guns, a devious raccoon, a scary looking clown, and a dog that can rap. That’s right, a dog that can rap! Man, you’ve got to love gaming in the 90s.
Another year draws to a close and 2013 is right in front of us. What better way to look back on the year that was 2012 than reliving each and every game purchase of the year! You may recall last year I did something very similar at the end of the year, but this time around it’s a bit more special. 2012 was Slick Gaming’s first full calendar year being a live blog (a feat I still can’t grasp entirely). That means a lot of things, like more posts and features than before, but it also means an entire year’s worth of new games chronicled in the Sunday Roundup feature. Let’s start out in January and take a look back at the year in games! Read the rest of this entry »
And what a year it’s been. dozens of great games came out in 2012 (with some included in this week’s Roundup!), and even more stellar games came my way this year as well.
The final Sunday Roundup of 2012 includes not only games I picked up myself throughout the week but also the handful of excellent Christmas gifts I received from family and loved ones. Thank you so much for all the gifts everyone. And now to just play them all 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »
Miss a few weeks of the Sunday Roundup and I’ve got to get back in a big way I suppose. I knew there were some great game deals out there for Black Friday at big retailers like Best Buy, Amazon.com, and Wal-Mart, but in the confusion and craziness that is the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, I completely looked past a local store that just so happens to sell video games from decades past. And did I luck out by checking their sales as well. Let’s just say that 20% off and buy 1 get 1 sales make me a happy collector!
I have a small confession to make: this is a culmination of two weeks worth of games. I was unable to get my Sunday Roundup done last week on time, and as you’ll see I had plenty of games to put together a solid week’s worth of titles for you all. But one thing lead to another and I wasn’t able to publish my weekly article. But fear not! The Sunday Roundup has not gone away, and it is back, better than ever. Or at least it’s back. Being better is totally subjective.
