A trip back to Indiana for a wedding yielded great benefits for my collection. A trip to the local game store in Michigan City, followed by a visit to the oh so lucrative Disc Replay in Merrillville meant plenty of games were found in this the end of July. Oh, and a game from GameStop thrown in for good measure!!
Two new stores to find retro games! One store was brand new as of this week, and really isn’t a store. It’s more of just some guy that tacked on his game collection to an existing hobby game store. Nonetheless, there were a few titles there that caught my eye. The second store was a used music/movies/games store that I saw from the highway and decided to stop in and look around. Surprisingly there were games aplenty at this place, including a Dreamcast game of all things! Well, let’s get this thing underway!
Special thanks go out this week to JJ I met over at Splitkick. He pointed me toward a special 25% off sale at the game store eStarland (who also have a dated looking website to order games).
I went nuts.
On top of that, I picked up a few games off Craigslist that I’ve been looking to purchase for years. Seriously, years! And each of them were fantastic prices. Read on, as there are quite a few games this week to browse.
Rather than give you the full intro for the Sunday Roundup, I’m going to direct you to an article I wrote a while back about Goodwill. I’ve spoken at length about Goodwill and thrift shops being a game hunters friend. I’ve reminisced about how I found rare games or totally insane deals while sifting through the racks, and I’ve always accented these stories with the one or two exceptional finds I’ve found (i.e. Diablo on PS1). Well, I’m tacking on another title to that list this week!
Well folks, this is it. My very last Sunday Roundup whilst living in the wonderful state of Indiana. This coming Friday I’ll be making my move across the country to live in sunny California! Seeing as this week was the last full week I’d be in the Hoosier state, I decided to take it upon myself to go out with a bang. Well, at least in the video game collecting department. Rather than himming and hawing over a few dollars for a game, if I saw a game I wanted I just bought it. There aren’t too many great stores in the area I’m moving to in Cali, so I decided to take advantage of the wonderful selection I have here in Indiana one more time. So let’s get this thing started, shall we?
There was a 20% off sale at a local game store this week, and seeing as this will likely be the last real time I am able to go there, I had to take advantage. I also decided that since I may or may not ever find a store that sells Sega Saturn games I should pick up one last classic game for the console. And then that same day I happened into a Best Buy store and noticed they had a makeshift sign that read, “Games on sale this week.” Hmm, interesting… perhaps I should actually considering going back there. Gotta throw a shout out to David Hughes over at Splitkick.com for these games. He was gracious enough to send them my way out of the kindness of his heart! To say I’m excited for these games is an understatement: I’ve been looking for Alundra 2 for years now, and to have it fall into my lap in a way is just a great feeling. So, to David, thank you!
And for that matter if any of you out there are looking for a loving home for your dust collecting games, look no further 🙂 Read the rest of this entry »
Two things I didn’t know about this game: 1) It actually uses the same game engine as the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise, and 2) Activision held a contest to cast the kid skaters in the game! Not only is that a great way to involve the kid skater, but it’s a damn fine game engine as a backbone. While note as long lasting as, say, THPS3, DESA is a great skating game, and much better than Tony’s recent debacles. As a much more approachable version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater for a younger audience, Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure comes, surprisingly, recommended!
What can you get for $10 these days? Two five dollar footlongs at Subway, at least until Thursday. Half of a T-shirt? Maybe some cheap flatware from Wal-Mart? This week I determined that $10 can net you more than some lame cutlery or fast food. It can be six video games! Sure, it’s not six of the newest games, but it’s six video games that can suck up way more time than some silly sandwich.
