Characters I Want to See in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Ultra Street Fighter IV Logo

Without getting into a big fuss about the upcoming Ultra Street Fighter IV and the reveal of it’s newest character Decapre, I wanted to discuss some characters that I would have liked to see in the newest fighting game reiteration from Capcom. I do praise Capcom for bringing someone completely new to the battle, but even so there are some other cool fighters they could have included as well. Lists like these are almost always going to be geared towards the preferences of the person writing them, so keep that in mind when you see the list and I’m not including Charlie (because he’s kinda dead). Worth Playing vol. 7: The Spinoff Spectacular

Wario Land Logo

Just like every other medium, video games often spawn sequels focused solely on once side characters, shining a light on their stories or adventures, and thus making the spinoff sequel. With video games specifically, the spinoff doesn’t have to focus on just a character: it can be a game that dramatically changes the gameplay but keeps the characters or storyline; it can be about a side story happening at the same time; it can focus on an entirely different character’s storyline altogether. It can be a lot of things. And an, there are a lot of spinoffs out there for your favorite franchises. Here are a handful of spinoff video games that are well worth your time. Animal Crossing: New Leaf Candies!

Animal Crossing Candy 1

After a handful of failed attempts, I was finally able to procure a bag of the Japanese Animal Crossing: New Leaf candies! If you’re like me and you were trying to find anything about these candies online and turned up zilch, then let me entertain you with plenty of delicious pics!

Animal Crossing Candy Bag 2

Each bag is adorned by a handful of familiar Animal Crossing: New Leaf characters like Isabelle, Rover, and Tom Nook. If you’re lucky and recognize a few of the villagers on the cover you might enjoy it more. Being a Japanese candy everything is naturally written in Japanese, so unless you can read Japanese (I can!) you probably won’t be able to tell what anything is saying.

Animal Crossing Candy 2

Inside each bag you’ll find an assortment of individually wrapped hard candies. The flavors are apple, peach, pear, and cherry: all types of fruits you can grow in the game! After tasting a few of the actual candies I can safely say I won’t be buying another bag for the taste. But I will likely buy more for the collectible cards/stickers!

Animal Crossing Candy Stickers

Each bag also comes with a sticker/card sheet. There are villagers and objects included on the card. I for one am happy to have received the to-go coffee cup and the Nook brothers! Each card is numbered making collecting easy!

Animal Crossing Candy Able Sisters

The candies have a different character on every wrapper, but admittedly a lot of duplicates were included in each bag. Seeing as I didn’t get any candies wrappers with any of my villagers on them (Not even Cyrano!) I’ll likely be buying a few more packs until I can unwrap a friendly face. Some candies were wrapped in gold wrapper. I’m not sure if these are more rare than the vanilla wrappers, but perhaps they are. Hmm, actual Rare Candy. Isn’t that from another game…

Animal Crossing Candy KK Slider

I don’t really have anything more riveting than that. I was just incredibly happy to have been able to track down a package of these treats for myself and I wanted to share that with you all!

Well, this Animal Crossing fanboy rant has gone on long enough.

Top Ten “Non-Final Fantasy” Final Fantasy Games

Kingdom Hearts 358 2 Days Art

You can’t be as venerable as the Final Fantasy series without spawning a few spinoffs. Usually the spinoff is a chance to use some of the same mechanics as the core series but make something drastically different: perhaps a totally different battle system, completely different approach to story, and sometimes just a celebration of the many years of success the source series has entertained. Regardless of the influence, there have been dozens of spinoffs and pseudo-sequels for Final Fantasy games, and none more awesome than the ten below.

Top Ten Final Fantasy Games

Final Fantasy VI Art

As the soon-to-be-classic RPG Bravely Default is out now on the Nintendo 3DS, myself and a lot of other RPG fans have been talking about the Final Fantasy series. It seems the one-time king of the JRPG has come a long way from the first game on the NES back in 1987: gone are the White Mages and Fighters from the early days, and in their place are MMORPGs and strangely named sequels like Final Fantasy XIII-2. But as Bravely Default has reminded us, there are a lot of great moments to hold on to and cherish in the Final Fantasy series. So, seeing as Final Fantasy is the topic of the time, I have been thinking a good deal about what my favorite FF games are. Having played most all of them, but notably not the newer games, I actually had a difficult time narrowing down the list to just ten. Read the rest of this entry »

CES 2014 Extravaganza

CES 2014 LogoFor the second year in a row I was fortunate (lucky?) enough to attend the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas! Brimming with the latest technology, gadgets, innovations, and plenty of robots, CES was great every way you look at it. Though certainly not the biggest draw to the event but easily the biggest reason I was excited to attend were video games. While nothing mind blowing was shown (unless you want to count Sony’s PlayStation Now feature), there were some cool toys to play around with. Read the rest of this entry »

Top Ten Classic Robot Masters

Mega Man III Stage SelectWith all the talk recently about Keiji Inafune’s hugely successful Kickstarter for Might No. 9, I have been doing a lot of recollecting about Mega Man. The Blue Bomber has always had a very special place in my heart, as many of you will already know should you follow this blog or listen to the Recurring Bosscast. I’ve played most all of the classic Mega Man games and was naturally more than excited when this spiritual successor by the original creator turned up on Kickstarter. All the thinking about Mega Man and his storied past got me on a mental spree about which were my favorite Robot Masters. With dozens to choose from, narrowing down the list to just ten was certainly not easy. Top Ten Games That Need HD Remakes

Cool Spot IntroRiding on the coattails of Scrooge McDuck and the HD remake of the NES classic DuckTales, I’ve been reminiscing about a lot of games from my childhood. And while yesteryear is strangely something I think about far more than a normal person should, this time I was beginning to wonder what some of my other favorite titles growing up would look like in glorious high definition. Though it’s strictly speculation and quite literally most of these will never be possible, it was fun to think of what could be. What should be, perhaps? But nonetheless, here are the top ten games that need HD remakes! Read the rest of this entry »
