Video Review: Die Hard Arcade

My first video using my Sega Saturn! Die Hard Arcade is such a fun game. It alone makes me happy to own the system! Now I want to play Dynamite Cop for the Dreamcast…

Free Play – Spyborgs

Free Play is back! Honestly I’ve been recording these videos for months now but haven’t gotten around to finally finishing one until now. What I mean is there should be a steady stream of content from now on.

Spyborgs was a completely random Wii game that I picked up that turned out to be a true hidden gem. The gameplay was great, the co-op decent, and the visuals and production top notch for the Wii. Check out the video to see Spyborgs in action, and witness the first Free Play game I actually want to keep playing!

Review: Foul Play

Foul Play LogoGather ‘round my friends, and let’s listen to the gentlemanly tales of Baron Dashforth and his companion Mr. Scampwick. Stories full of skullduggery, malicious villains, and the most treacherous foe of all… repetition! Foul Play is a side scrolling beat ‘em up disguised as a theatre performance. While some innovative ideas separate the game from others in its genre, Foul Play is held back from greatness by simple combat and repetitive gameplay. Read the rest of this entry »

Worth Playing vol. 6: The Brawler Bunch

Double Dragon II ArtBrawlers, beat-em ups, side-scrollers (to an extent), and just plain arcade. Whatever you label the genre one thing is for sure: there are a ton of them out there!

Since I started playing video games on the NES there have been side-scrolling beat-em ups. My beginnings were with the Double Dragon series on the NES, which then evolved into the Genesis classics Golden Axe I and II. The love affair took off from there, with every generation producing unique and worthwhile entries in the genre. Though there has been a decline with the recent consoles, a spare brawler rises out of the ashes of nostalgia and captures my heart all over again. The following games aren’t in any sort of order. They’re all just games that are entirely worth your time.

Gameplay Vault: The Simpsons Arcade Game

After nearly two decades of being left in arcade obscurity, The Simpsons Arcade Game has finally been released for home consoles. I have fond memories playing this machine when I was much younger, and that was even if I could find it. To the best of my knowledge, this was a rather rare cabinet to find sitting in an arcade. But if you did find one, you bet your ass someone was playing as Marge, Bart, Lisa, or Homer and enjoying themselves. I’ve uploaded some videos of my playthrough of the game, and have put them here for your viewing pleasure. Sit back and enjoy, and don’t have a cow, man!

Sunday Roundup: 1/8/12

The first roundup of the new year, and it’s a rare one for me. I am not one to buy game for systems haphazardly, though it may appear otherwise. I usually stick to my plan and buy games to add to my collection. But how often do you find complete in box Nintendo Entertainment System games? Freaking never!

Sunday Roundup: 12/25/11

Merry Christmas everyone!

Not really a tradition and more so my tastes don’t really change, every Christmas I usually receive a few video games from my family. This year was no exception, and I am eternally grateful and pleased that my loved ones get me any gifts, let alone games that I really want to play! Here’s what 2011 did for Jsick this Christmas.
