Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 3 CoverDance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 3
Wii
Release Date: October 27th, 2009
Purchased at: GameStop (Campbell, CA – $5)

I wasn’t expecting much from this trip to GameStop, because the last few times Laura and I made our way out here it wasn’t very fruitful. But this time there was a trio of games I happily waited behind a super slow family trading in an Xbox 360 and a dozen games to buy! After finding Dance Dance Revolution II last week, I kind of thought my next DDR would be Dance Dance Revolution and I’d be looking for Hottest Party 3 for a much longer time. It’s not an expensive game (obviously), but it’s been hard for me to track a copy down in my area. I’m happy I’ve almost completed the Wii DDR library!

Lost in Blue Shipwrecked CoverLost in Blue: Shipwrecked
Wii
Release Date: September 23rd, 2008
Purchased at: GameStop (Campbell, CA – $5)

While I was happy to have found Hottest Party 3 at this store, I was even more surprised to also find Lost in Blue on Wii! The GameStop employee said he didn’t even know there was a Lost in Blue on the system, to which I wasn’t surprised or upset: rather, I was kind of impressed he even knew what the Lost In Blue series was, let alone recognized it when I brought up the game. This was a really great find, because it’s not only complete and a great price, but it completes my series collection!

Fossil League CoverFossil League: Dino Tournament Championship
DS
Release Date: January 16th, 2007
Purchased at: GameStop (Campbell, CA – $3)

Though I would prefer it to be complete, I couldn’t pass up this one for so cheap! Fossil League is kind of like a dinosaur themed Pokemon game: you collect and train your massive reptiles to do battle, leveling them up along the way, and eventually tracking down every last one. Most reviews draw this comparison to Pokemon, which honestly isn’t bad: the Pokemon series is a wonderful franchise to model your game on, and one that features dinosaurs at its core seems like a winner to me. I also like how this game also has incredibly similar ties to another franchise: Fossil Fighters.

Gears of War Judgment CoverGears of War: Judgment
Xbox 360
Release Date: March 19th, 2013
Purchased at: Target (Sunnyvale, CA – $5)

Why yes, I will buy you for just $5, Gears of War: Judgment. I still haven’t gotten through all of Gears of War 2 (let alone GoW3), although Laura and I will occasionally talk about how we still haven’t finished the game. From what I remember during the time of this game’s release, the story and gameplay was average, but was kind of a letdown from the past trilogy. I’ll likely keep this one sealed, since I don’t really have much interest in the game, but couldn’t pass on that deal.

Fighters Megamix Cover (Japan)Fighters Megamix
Saturn
Release Date: December 21st, 1996
Purchased at: eBay (Online – $6)

My very first import game! I was really happy when this one arrived: it was well packaged and in perfect condition! Two years ago Laura bought me an Action Replay for my Saturn, which allows the console to play games from any region, including Japan, which has some exclusive games worth playing. Also, some games for the US Saturn are incredibly expensive, while their Japanese counterpart are incredibly cheap (like this game!). I’ll try to stream some of the game later this week if I’m lucky. And to end of a funny note, this was my favorite game on the ill-fated Game.Com system. Yes… I have a Game.Com.

Sunday Roundup: 3/22/15

New Games (3-22-150Laura had a long meeting for work and I had the day off, so the only natural thing to do was hunt for video games across the South Bay Area. I ended up stopping at two GameStops I’ve never been too before, both of which proved to be fruitful ventures, as well as a couple Goodwill locations, which were not as grand as past expeditions but still worthwhile. When all was said and done Laura’s dad asked me if I played all of these games, which sadly the answer is no. But I told him I was proud of the fact most all of them were $5 or less! Anyway, here’s this weeks roundup! Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Roundup: 3/1/15

New Games (3-1-15)Maybe it’s the curse of the collector to buy the crappiest of games and find thrill in it all, because that’s exactly what is happening right now. This week I picked up three games from Conspiracy Entertainment, arguably the worst publisher on the Wii, simply because of this infamy. If a game is terrible, maybe it’ll make for a collectible item in the future. In the near future it might even make for a fun video for this site: you never know! In direct contrast to Conspiracy’s lameness, I picked up two games from Zoo Games, which makes lesser known games, but Zoo’s games are actually decent. Outside of those, a nice DS game I found on eBay arrived this week, as well as a handful of super cheap DS games from GameStop. Overall a great week! Read the rest of this entry »

Top Ten Favorite Dance Dance Revolution Songs

DDR Konamix Logo

Though its popularity has waned in recent years, Konami’s Dance Dance Revolution franchise has seen numerous entries on literally every platform on the market. It also seemingly single handedly saved arcades from total annilhilation: or at least it staved off their downfall for a few more years. For myself, DDR was a way of life in high school. A group of my friends and I would play every day (no exaggeration there, we’d literally play every day), oftentimes directly after a swim practice or other school event. We even had a small rivalry going with another group of DDR-players at the arcades and in school! While I deemed myself good at the game, I was never anywhere near a competitive level, with even my friends topping me at every corner. Regardless, Dance Dance Revolution made up a large part of my gaming years. I’ve been thinking about the game recently, after picking up a random game in the series, and that got me thinking about my all-time favorite songs from the series. Now, I’ve written a lot of articles on this blog about top tens and whatnot, but nothing has been as challenging to narrow down to just ten than this list! It was tough, but I managed to whittle down all the songs I’ve danced to to just ten, and here they are, my top ten favorite DDR songs! Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Roundup: 2/8/15

New Games (2-8-15)Good lord, when stores have sales I tend to go crazy! This time around, Space Cat, a local used game store, moved locations to a bigger yet somehow more cramped space, and to commemorate the transition offered 50% off their used games under $9.99! I’m sure you can tell I picked up a lot of titles. What was doubly great about this deal however was the fact that a lot of games I previously passed on during my past visits to the store were still there, and now they’re even cheaper! Those account for a lot of the pickups this week. There was also a random visit to a board game selling couple on Craigslist that lead to a new Wii Fit as well as a very successful trip to Mountain View’s GameStop! And any week I can scrounge up a Sega Saturn game is a good week, so throw that onto the pile for this post as well! Read the rest of this entry »

Sunday Roundup: 1/25/15

New Games (1-25-15)A massive haul from several Goodwill’s around the area helped to make this first official Sunday Roundup of 2015 a big one. There isn’t anything extraordinary in the haul this week, but there are some fun titles and some titles I’ve been sitting on for a long time. I also continued the trend of buying the entire Tony Hawk’s series someone keeps donating. Eventually I’ll run out of games/consoles I don’t have yet, so I’ll need to think of something else to do in the meantime.  Read the rest of this entry »

DDR Hottest Party 2 CoverDance Dance Revolution Hottest Party 2
Wii
Release Date: September 16th, 2008
Purchased at: Goodwill (Sunnyvale, CA – $4)

Just a random stop in Goodwill this week and I happened across a fine looking Wii game. Though at this point the series is still well out of it’s prime, Hottest Party 2 in as great a condition as I found it and for that price is just too good to pass up. Apparently the reviews for this one (and the entire Hottest Party series in general) have been mostly favorable, complimenting the game’s selection of musical tracks. I’m actually curious to see how this plays without a dance pad but with the Wii’s motion controls. Who knows…
