Video Review: Sonic the Fighters

For as awful and button-mashy as Sonic the Fighters is, I still really want to see a fully fleshed out sequel!

Sunday Roundup: 12/25/11

Merry Christmas everyone!

Not really a tradition and more so my tastes don’t really change, every Christmas I usually receive a few video games from my family. This year was no exception, and I am eternally grateful and pleased that my loved ones get me any gifts, let alone games that I really want to play! Here’s what 2011 did for Jsick this Christmas.

What Makes A Game “Rare”?

To follow up on my last post about video game collecting, I wanted to go through some of the games in my collection and discuss why they are considered to be “rare.” A game can fluctuate in price fairly easily and the cause of this change can originate from many different places, not the least of which being scarcity of the item. So as a collector, what do you need to look for in a game, and more importantly, what games should you look for to add that special gem to your collection.

Worth Playing vol. 2: The Fighting Edition

If you’ve been playing games at all the last two years or so you’ve probably noticed the fairly large amount of fighting games being released. It’s a second coming for the fighter, which saw most of its best entries come out in the 90s. Get ready fighters.

Go for it, man!

Review: Mercury Hg

It doesn’t get much simpler than the Mercury series: guide a blob of the titular element through a maze and into the goal. And you know what? It’s pretty damn fun. Mercury Hg brings the PSP puzzler to consoles in glorious HD. At the low price point of $5 Mercury Hg will cure your itch for a new puzzle game, even if the experience is over rather quickly.

Review: Rochard

I remember when the Xbox Live Arcade title Shadow Complex released in 2009 and thinking, “Man, I wish I had an Xbox to play that!” I didn’t regret purchasing my PS3, but I felt sad that I couldn’t play the Metroidvania-style action game. Fast forward to 2011 and PS3 owners get their own exclusive side-scrolling Metroidvania type game in the form of Rochard. Combining the action of retro side-scrollers, an upgrade system reminiscent of the Metroid series, and a heavy emphasis on physics puzzle solving, Rochard is a fantastic downloadable title that PS3 owners should be proud to call an exclusive.
