The Subtle Differences in Bravely Second

Bravely Second Banner

It’s been out for a few weeks now, and though I haven’t been enjoying it right off the bat as much as I did the first game, Square Enix’s Bravely Second has been an entertaining RPG. There wasn’t anything the game needed to change in order for it to be another solid turn-based game, but the developers still added some extra stuff into that mix. Some stuff are welcome additions, and others are things I didn’t know I wanted or needed! If you’ve somehow never played either game and own a 3DS (shame on you!) then here are some changes you can look forward too when you pick it up and start one of the best RPGs on the 3DS! Preview: The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes

Triforce Heroes PAX PrimeI’m happy Nintendo keeps revisiting the idea of multiplayer Zelda games. If you haven’t played any of the Four Swords games before (which I can totally believe, because getting together four people with a Game Boy Advance and Link Cable each, and a copy of the Gamecube game is challenging) then you’re actually missing out on something special. When there are multiple Link’s on the screen, vying for the same items, rupees, and points, things get chaotic. And it’s not like any other Zelda game, because the puzzles are totally different, the gameplay can take interesting twists not seen in other games, and it still remains Zelda and it is still fun!

Coming later this year is The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes for the Nintendo 3DS. A multiplayer focused portable Zelda game isn’t anything new, but the way this game feels and the odd-yet-familiar approach to gameplay and puzzles certainly is. I was able to get a hands-on with the game during PAX Prime 2015 and have some thoughts to share with you on the newest entry in the classic series. Read the rest of this entry »

Preview: Battleborn

Battleborn PAX Display

A little bit Borderlands and a little bit MOBA, Gearbox’s new game Battleborn promises to keep the action high and the bullets flowing in 2016. Initial fears that the game will be too much like Borderlands are well grounded: Battleborn looks like Borderlands, it kind of plays like Borderlands, and it almost has the exact same amount of letters in its title as Borderlands. But if the demo at PAX Prime 2015 has proven anything, it’s that Battleborn feels different than its predecessor. Read the rest of this entry »

Super Smash Bros 3DS Demo Impressions

Super Smash Bros 3DS BannerI was fortunate enough to be among the select Club Nintendo members to receive an early download code for the Super Smash Bros. 3DS Demo. Coincidentally, while I was reading about Nintendo sending out codes to select Club Nintendo members of Friday, I happened to look down at my phone and noticed I had just received said email! Throughout the weekend I dabbled in the demo every chance I could get, and have a pretty nice grip on the five characters available. I must say, if a demo is supposed to make you want to purchase the game when it’s released, this has done a fine job of that! Although I was already going to be buying it…

Tomodachi Life Has Totally Won Me Over

Tomodachi Life - Virtual Boy
Man, talk about selling a game!

Earlier today, Nintendo released a new Nintendo Direct focusing on the quirky 3DS game, Tomodachi Life. Previously released only in Japan, this Nintendo Direct didn’t just give Western gamers a solid release date for their own region, it also let us delve into the wonderfully self-gratifying world on the Nintendo elite.

Before this special Nintendo Direct, I had little interest in the game, thinking it more a novelty than something I’d really enjoy. But after seeing this crazy video, I have decided that Tomodachi Life needs to be a part of my life.

A little bit Animal Crossing, and a dash of The Sims seems to make this new 3DS game a weird, wacky, one-of-a-kind game only Nintendo can create. Read the rest of this entry »

Nintendo Direct Impressions and Previews

A few weeks ago I was able to attend a Nintendo press conference in San Francisco! Of course I was thrilled to have the chance to meet some game journalists and play upcoming Nintendo games, but I knew I wanted to focus on the task and deliver a preview that wasn’t just me being a fanboy and gushing about each title. I’m happy to say that my first (and hopefully not last) article on Machinima is up, and it is all about the 3DS!

Mario and Luigi Dream Team Gameplay 1

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Games previewed include The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move.

The article is hosted on the Inside Gaming Daily blog. Check it out and look for each of the games to release this year!

Laters,
Jsick

What to Expect from the new Legend of Zelda

Link to the Past 2 LogoWith every new Nintendo console comes a brand new Legend of Zelda. It should come as no surprise that the Big N has announced a new game starring the green-clad hero for the 3DS: the Japanese developer has been steadily releasing Zelda games for each and every one of its consoles and handhelds for over two decades. What could come as a shock to some gamers is the setting and style for the new, as yet unnamed, 3DS Zelda. The game takes place in the same Hyrule we explored on the SNES in 1992 with The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Read the rest of this entry »
