I’ve been writing video game reviews for over two years now, and there’s been some things I’ve learned over that span of time. I don’t mean better writing techniques, for which I’ve picked up quite a few, but rather the things you don’t think about until they rear their head. Since not everyone has written reviews before, I wanted to take some time to reflect on my time spent writing, and give some insight on what it takes to be a freelance video game reviewer.

Now that’s more like it.
A great haul this week, spanning from the PS1, PS2, and the Xbox 360.
I love it when I get a great deal on a lot of games.

Ahhh…
There’s nothing quite like buying a game you’ve been looking for for well over ten years. The satisfaction of thinking you somehow beat the system, found a gem, and finally attained the sought after holy grail of your collection is exhilarating. Until you realize there’s about 400 other rare games you’re still looking for!

I found this title earlier in the week at a used game store for two bucks. Needless to say, my hopes weren’t high. Just two new games this week. I have been on a serious Spyro kick lately: I’ve bought about seven Spyro games in the last three months. Oh well, it’s not like they’re bad games. Though I suppose most of them aren’t too well regarded either…

I am really happy when I find a game I’ve been looking for. I’m happier when that game is cheaper than usual. And I’m happiest when said game is a fighting game. This week was accented by a very good find that I’m happy to have in my library.

A note about this week’s roundup: I enjoy buying games that are both considered classics, and games that simply look fun. Also, I’m a fan of older games, which should explain the amount of old PS1 titles here. Without further adieu…

I can really only think of about three arcade golf games: The literal arcade golf game Golden Tee, the Mario Golf series for the Nintendo 64 and GameCube, and Hot Shots Golf for the Playstation. There must be a reason so many games exist in this series. I take a look back at the first title in the series and look at what makes the game so great. Here’s a hint: It’s the golf.
