Being a child at heart, most of my Christmas lists are full of video games. Each and every year I am reminded how truly blessed I am to have so many caring, loving people in my life that want to bestow upon me such gifts. This year for Christmas I was given quite a few video games to add to my collection. Some I have been wanting for years now. Some I bought entire new systems just to play. And yet some are for systems from years past.

A trip back to Indiana for a wedding yielded great benefits for my collection. A trip to the local game store in Michigan City, followed by a visit to the oh so lucrative Disc Replay in Merrillville meant plenty of games were found in this the end of July. Oh, and a game from GameStop thrown in for good measure!!
What’s that? Another tragedy has befallen Japan and demons are at the center of it all? Hmm, must be another Shin Megami Tensei game. Devil Survivor 2 is the follow-up to the RPG/strategy hybrid Devil Survivor (which saw a recent remake on the 3DS), and it has you once again controlling a group of young heroes as they unravel the mysteries surrounding the most recent trip Earth has taken to its ultimate destruction. As 2011 comes to an end, I thought it would be a cool idea to look back at the year in games. Specifically, the year in games added to my ever-growing library. If you’re a frequent visitor to the site (I greatly hope you are!) you’ll no doubt know I do a weekly blog post about my newest games. So below I’ve collected every game I added this year (well, really only half-year, because I started this blog in late July). I’ve also linked any relevant posts I’ve done about said games, like reviews, Modern Classics, and gameplay videos. Enjoy the small retrospective, and here’s to another fantastic year in gaming in 2012!

In Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, the most recent release from Atlus and the creators of the Persona series, you take on the role of a handful of Tokyo teenagers who get caught up in a battle of angels and demons with the fate of the world in the balance. Devil Survivor Overclocked is an enhanced port for the Nintendo 3DS of 2009’s DS exclusive Devil Survivor. Merely two years after the original game came out does the 3DS release have enough power to pull gamers back in or is this battle already lost? Read the rest of this entry »
Two re-releases and another PS1 classic are the newest additions to the library: Intelligent Qube for the PS1, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition for the Xbox 360, and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS.
