Top Ten E3 2013 Announcements and Stories

E3 2013 LogoE3 2013 has come and gone. By many standards it was what we’d come to expect from the expo: new game announcements, news on all kinds of projects, and some exclusive trailers, demos, and videos. But just about everyone can agree that this year’s E3 went above and beyond the expectations of most in attendance. It wasn’t just about the games this year: it was about the consoles and how they affect the gamers. It was about a change in the way we game and how our hobby will change moving forward. It was about publishers making games that gamers wanted to play. And above all, it was about glorifying our hobby and giving us an undeniable outlet to look at and say without wavering that we’re proud to be gamers. These ten announcements are just the tip of the events that made E3 2013 so memorable, and what you should be most excited for. Read the rest of this entry »

E3 2013 Gameplay and Trailer Extravaganza

E3 2013 Logo Day 4The final day of the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo has come to an end. Every E3 supplies us with thrills and excitement over upcoming games, newly announced IPs, and titles that we otherwise would have never heard of before. With the addition this year of the new consoles (the Xbox One and PlayStation 4) and the mountains of talk and news they brought, this year’s E3 felt like a rollercoaster ride that was nothing but ups. Most of the news has died down as the show has dwindled to its last day, so I’m going to highlight a few games that stood out at this years show, and present you with gameplay trailers, content videos, and even some demos of the games that were shown off on the floor. If you can’t make it to E3 (one day I’ll make it there!) then this is your best shot of experiencing what it’s like in the madness. Read the rest of this entry »

E3 2013 Day 3 Recap

E3 2013 Logo Day 3Just one day left for this year’s E3! The major press conferences are over, so we can assume that there won’t be any more surprises this year (which is always sad, but there is so much to be happy about already!). With today over and tomorrow being the last for this year’s expo, most outlets are playing demons, interviewing developers, and finding out a few extra details about games and consoles. Tomorrow I’ll wrap up with a bunch of trailers, gameplay vids, and more, but for today, eat up these fine morsels of gaming goodness!

E3 2013 Day 2 Recap

E3 2013 Logo Day 2Nintendo held their “Press Conference” for E3 this year via a new Nintendo Direct video. Though it lacked the on-stage flair many E3 press conferences ooze, it still provided us with plenty of new games and announcements, with the top of the list being news about the next Super Smash Bros. title. Today was technically the first day of the actual expo, so we were also given a lot of hands-on impressions and demos, as well as some new gameplay trailers and info on both games and systems.

Gaming News: 1/19/13

Disney Infinity ToysTwo pieces of news this week could mean two very different things. Nintendo consolidating its handheld and console divisions could mean struggles at the company, but it could also (and more likely) mean the game company is looking to become more competitve in the growing market. And then there’s Sony’s selling of it’s US headquarters. This could mean seriously bad things for the Japanese giant, but it is likely just a move to ease the financial loses and move forward as a company.

Also this week, there’s some games coming out soon, apparently? Read the rest of this entry »

Gaming News: 1/5/13

Ouya Home ScreenWhat does the first week of the new year have in store for video games?

Not too much, actually. Only a few stories tickled my fancy this week, and even those weren’t as grand as expected. I guess I was hoping 2013 would start out with some crazy cool announcement. Hmm… maybe later this year we will finally get Power Stone 3.

One can hope… Read the rest of this entry »

Gaming News: 12/1/12

Wii Mini ConsoleThe sales are over, Cyber week is wrapping up, and we can get back to the standard Gaming News formula. And by that I mean news about games that are coming out, updates to games, and important snippets you should know about. Not just those silly sales like an Xbox 36o with three games for $250. No one would care to buy that. Oh wait.. apparently hundreds of thousands of people did.

Huh.. Read the rest of this entry »

The Question of Games Being Ported to iOS: Good or Bad?

Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android operating systems for mobile devices like smartphones and iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches have been getting a steady stream of games since their inception. It’s a guarantee that each week, if not each day, a new game or two will be released for the portable devices. Whether or not those games are worthwhile is an entirely different story. But what about those instances where the games being released are ports of actual console video games? It’s been happening more and more recently, and it has gotten me to think about just what that means to you and I as gamers, as well as to the publishers and developers of said games.
