Video Review: Sonic the Fighters

For as awful and button-mashy as Sonic the Fighters is, I still really want to see a fully fleshed out sequel!

Review: Anomaly: Warzone Earth

Tower defense games are nothing new, with new iterations on the classic formula seemingly coming out every year (see Dungeon Defenders and Orcs Must Die! & it’s newly announced sequel). How often has a game in the genre done something as radical as Anomaly: Warzone Earth? The folks at 11 bit studios said screw placing towers, we’re going to let you play as the creep and destroy the towers! Anomaly: Warzone Earth can be described as reverse tower defense (or even tower attack), but no matter what moniker it’s given the game is downright fun.

Review: All Zombies Must Die!

There’s something about blowing a hole in the back of a zombie’s cranium with a 12-gauge that keeps me coming back again and again. The living dead have been the antagonist of many a videogame, and the new downloadable title All Zombies Must Die! is here to show us how much fun mankind’s doom can be: four-player co-op, a deep weapon crafting system, and a story that doesn’t take itself seriously. The zombie killing quickly turns rotten however, with repetitive gameplay, heavy backtracking, and missed opportunities.

Gameplay Vault: All Zombies Must Die!

Zombies have been all the rage lately, haven’t they? I don’t think I even need to go into detail about all the movies, games, and books they’ve been a part of. Because of this overflow of undead, it might be easy to pass by All Zombies Must Die! for the Xbox 360 (or perhaps you might mistakenly think it’s the similarly named Orcs Must Die!). Either way, I’ve been able to put some time into this action-RPG/dual-stick shooting hybrid, and I’ve been pleased with it thus far. I have some videos for you all to enjoy so you can get a feel for the zombies yourself.

Review: Sonic CD

After Sonic Generations came out and took us back through the entirety of the blue hedgehog’s past, Sega has released the one-time Sega CD exclusive Sonic CD on the Xbox 360. Being released on the ill-fated Sega CD meant that many gamers never got their hands on one of the last great 2D Sonic titles. Now that Sega has made the game available for download nearly 20 years after its initial release, all can experience one of Sonic’s best outings.

What Makes A Game “Rare”?

To follow up on my last post about video game collecting, I wanted to go through some of the games in my collection and discuss why they are considered to be “rare.” A game can fluctuate in price fairly easily and the cause of this change can originate from many different places, not the least of which being scarcity of the item. So as a collector, what do you need to look for in a game, and more importantly, what games should you look for to add that special gem to your collection.

Video Game Hunting & Collecting 101

One of the most exciting part about being a gamer is the joy of finding a new game. It’s always great when a new title comes out, especially for a series you’ve played in the past and enjoyed (like Marvel vs. Capcom 3), but I’m talking about when you find an older game. One you’ve been looking to find for a long time. One that might be a rare spectacle in and of itself. These are the exciting moments I’m talking about. After eight or so years, I think I’ve amassed quite a collection of titles, and I’ve learned a good deal from my experiences. If you’re thinking of starting a collection, already have a pile of games sitting around, or just want to learn the best ways to get the games you’re looking for, this article is for you.
