Sunday Roundup : 4/29/12

A couple of good games this week at the cost of a store. Unfortunately our local Blockbuster video (which was privately owned) has finally closed it’s doors, the last day of sales being Saturday. Everything was on sale, movies, games, fixtures, and even the front desk. Wanting to help and also wanting to snag some games, I went in a bought a few titles this week.

Bulletstorm: Epic Edition Xbox 360 Release Date: February 22nd, 2011 Purchased At: Blockbuster Video (Michigan City, IN – $8) I remember the hype behind this game when it was first released: it was the next big game from Epic, the house that brought us the Gears of War series. Not only that, but People Can Fly was also involved in development, the company behind the Painkiller series of shooters. The two in tandem delivered a shooter that was high on thrills, action, and nonsense. The game garnered good reviews but I don’t think it’s critical success was mirrored in commercial success.

Killer 7 PlayStation 2 Release Date: July 7th, 2005 Purchased at: Blockbuster Video (Michigan City, IN – $1) Somehow I’ve managed to avoid owning this game for years, even though it’s been staring me in the face in just about every GameStop used games under $5 bin. Killer 7 is made by Suda51, who is more commonly known for his work on No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned, and the upcoming  Lollipop Chainsaw. This game is about seven lethal assassins as they take on hits and uncover a bigger mystery than they were expecting. Should be a pretty intense thriller, but time will tell.

Legend of the Dragon PlayStation 2 Release Date: May 1st, 2007 Purchased at: Blockbuster Video (Michigan City, IN – $1) I really have no reason to even own this game. I know nothing about the apparent anime series that it is associated with, and the only reasons I bought it were it being a fighting game (apparently), and it was only a dollar. Yeah…

Splatterhouse Xbox 360 Release Date: November 23rd, 2010 Purchased at: Blockbuster Video (Michigan City, IN – $8) Pure nostalgia is the reasoning behind this one. The game is average, but I have memories of playing the third game on the Genesis back in the early 90s. I remember liking the haunting imagery and gorey gameplay back then, so I’m looking forward to that being kicked up several notches in this one. I heard it can be brutal, so I can’t wait to take it all in.

Stretch Panic PlayStation 2 Release Date: August 28th, 2001 Purchased at: Blockbuster Video (Michigan City, IN – $1) Despite being only a dollar, I actually wanted to buy this one. The game has the most ridiculous premise. Here’s what WikiPedia has to say about it: “The story stars Linda and her 12 vain sisters who have generally gone mad and obsessed with beauty and made her their errand girl. The sisters would always judge her scarf and her colorful fashion sense. One day when Linda was sent to pick up cosmetics to feed their vanity, a mysterious present appears on their doorstep, and upon opening it unleashes 13 Vanity demons. 12 of the demons kidnap and possess Linda’s sisters, but the 13th one gets stuck in Linda’s scarf (Due to her Lack of Vanity). They then all get sucked into a different dimension where beauty is everything. The demons want to punish the sisters for being vain. With full command over her newly possessed scarf, Linda sets out to save her 12 sisters.” Just awesome!
