Review: Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl

18 Oct

SoulFinalSome RPGs are about telling a story.

Some are about finding the best loot.

Some are just about surviving, plain and simple.

And then there are RPGs like Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl that has the whole package: it constantly pits you against fearsome foes, always tempts you with a shiny new piece of equipment, and has an interesting story to boot. Etrian Odyssey Untold acts as both a remake and reimagining of the original DS game, and incorporates aspects from the recent Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan to create a game that is arguably the best in the series and one of the finest in the entire dungeon crawler genre.

It wasn’t all that long ago I was loving my time spent with Etrian Odyssey IV, but now there’s a brand new game in the series to gawk over. The two games share nearly every art asset, gameplay mechanic, and overall idea, but Untold incorporates a few extra tweaks to make it a better overall game. Still, you should probably just play/buy both, because if you are serious about your RPGs, it doesn’t get much better than this!

Yeah, there are guns in the game. And they can shoot out magical healing bullets to your party!
